Monday:

 

Learning Intention: To write an introductory paragraph for a newspaper article based on the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

 

To write their own headline for their article, trying to apply the language features from last session. Then, pupils are to write the opening paragraph for their article to answer 5Ws, including past tense, facts and some language features associated with newspapers (using word mat).

 

Tuesday:

 

Learning Intention: To plan a newspaper article based on the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

 

Record on own planning sheet, one paragraph at a time. Try to include examples of (or notes which lead to):

- past tense,

- conjunctions of time,

- at least one example of present perfect tense,

- direct speech

- indirect speech

 

Wednesday:

 

Learning Intention: To write a newspaper article based on the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

 

Using the plan for the second paragraph, and the word mat to help, pupils are to write second paragraph to the article.

 

Thursday:

 

Learning Intention: To write a newspaper article based on the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

 

Using the plan for the third paragraph, their word mat and previous examples of dialogue written previously, pupils are to write the third  paragraph to the article.

 

Friday:

 

Learning Intention: To write a newspaper article based on the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

 

Using the plan for the final paragraphs, and the word mat to help, pupils are to write subsequent paragraphs to the article.

 

 

 

Guided Reading:

 

Please read any text (online or a book, magazine etc) for at least 20 minutes each day and answer one or all of the questions below, you can write these down or tell someone the answers:

1. Summarise/sum up what you have read in 20 words or less.

2. What is your favourite part of the text you have read? Why did you choose this?

3. Would you recommend this text to a friend? Who would like this? Why do you think they would like this?

4. Describe your favourite character from a story – what is their appearance and character like?

5. If you could change one part about what you have read, what would it be and why? (for example – how an online text is laid out on screen, the illustrations that have been used, how the story ends etc)
