This term we will be developing children's skills to coperate and work together in their play. We will be setting some challneges which encourage team work.We will also be looking at different emotions, identifying how they might make us feel and recognising how our actions can impact on others.
Children will travel in different ways around the setting using bikes, obstacles, climbing equipment to build their gross motor skills. In addition to this Fine motor skills will include using small tools, cooking activities, gardening and mark making. Children will be supported to dvelop a pencil grip and to use lines, shapes, pictures and letter like shapes to communicate their ideas.
We will be following simple instructions and directions this half term linked to growing plants. We will also be encouraging children to join in with discussions and to listen to others. We will be using sentence stems to encourage children to answer in complete sentence and to use words like and, because to extend their ideas. We will be developing language skills including aencourging children to answer how and why question, to ask their own questions and to learn new words linked to our theme.
children will read with an adult each week and will bring reading books home to share with you. Please check reading journals for details. We will also share stories as a class.

Children will practice recognising and writing their names using a name card to help them. We will also be writing in our play linked to the topic (labels, signs, greetings cards etc). There will be lots of opportunities for children to explore mark making in different areas of the classroom.
Phase 1 phonics will be taught daily. This term our main focus will be oral blending and segmenting
Children will draw on first hand experiences, with opportunities to create pictures and to investigate colours, textures and smells and to make models linked to our learning and inspired by their interests. This will include drawing and paintings of plants. we will also use collage materails and do some weaving.
This term we will be counting, comapring and matching set. children will be ncouraged to match numbers to sets to label them. They will begin to join two sets by combining the objects.
As part of our RE learning we will be reading some stories from the bible.
Children will be using their senses to explore different environments and notice changes around school. This will include investiagting plants and trees and how they change over the term (linked to the weather and seasonal changes). We will be applying our learning to make models, solve problem and design objects for the story characters. This will include making some traps to capture the Giant or Jack
