Welcome back- I hope you all feel refreshed after your holiday and ready for another exciting term. We begin our topic Fur, Feathers and Scales this half term with a focus on wild animals. Our visit this term to The Butterfly house includes opportunities for children to look closely at different types of animals and we will investigate how they are similar and different. Please watch out for more details of other events this half term in the school newsletter, on class dojo and in letters home.
In our literacy we will be using poems, stories and nonfiction to create a range of writing linked to our topic. Some of the books we will be reading include
Rumble in the Jungle
Giraffes can't dance
In numeracy we will be focusing on numbers beyond 10, encouraging children to order these and find one more or less. We will also be looking at solving mathematical problems using doubling, halving and sharing. We will also use shape, space and measure to solve problems including using animal patterns to investigate and create our own repeated and symmetrical patterns.
Our topic work will focus on investigating similarities and differences between different types of animals. Children will need to be dressed for outdoor activities each day so that we can take advantage of the different weather conditions to enhance our learning.
Our Author this half term will be Beatrix Potter and we will be reading and watching some of the stories she wrote about animals. If you have any favourites you are happy to share we will look at them during story time this half term.
