Treeton School Council

The Treeton School Council plays an important role in ensuring pupils have a meaningful voice in school life. Guided by our school values of Courage to inspire, Respect to all and Faith in our abilities, School Council members represent their classes by sharing ideas, raising concerns and helping to shape positive change across the school. Pupils demonstrate courage by speaking confidently and leading initiatives, respect by listening to and valuing the views of others, and faith by believing in their ability to make a difference. Through regular meetings and collaborative projects, the School Council promotes responsibility, leadership and active citizenship.

What does the School Council do?

The School Council meets regularly to discuss ideas and issues raised by pupils in their classes. Members gather views, share suggestions and work together to improve school life for everyone. This may include supporting school events, suggesting improvements to the school environment, contributing to fundraising or charity work, and helping to develop school initiatives. School Council members communicate decisions back to their classes and encourage pupils to take pride in their school and community.

SMSC and British Values

The School Council makes a strong contribution to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and supports the promotion of British Values. Through democratic processes such as voting and representation, pupils develop an understanding of democracy. By listening respectfully to others and working collaboratively, pupils learn mutual respect and tolerance. Discussions around fairness, responsibility and making positive choices support pupils’ moral and social development, while leadership opportunities build confidence, self-belief and resilience. The School Council enables pupils to feel heard, valued and empowered as active members of the school community.
