Pie Corbett Reading Spines

Many parents find Pie Corbett Reading Spines helpful as a guide when choosing books to enjoy at home.

What are Reading Spines?

Reading Spines are recommended book lists created by author and education expert Pie Corbett. They suggest high-quality stories, poems and non-fiction texts that are well suited to different age groups.

They are not a scheme or programme, but a starting point for parents who want ideas for great books to share with their child.

How can Reading Spines help at home?

Using Reading Spines can help parents to:

Choose books with rich language and strong storytelling
Introduce children to a wide range of authors and genres
Build enjoyable shared reading routines
Encourage curiosity, imagination and discussion
Revisit favourite stories again and again (which builds confidence and enjoyment)

World Book Day 2025

We love to celebrate World Book Day each year. Last year on March 5th we asked children to dress as a word. This could be a noun, verb or adjective. Can you guess any words? Some children chose to dress as their favourite book character too. Which is your favourite?

We held a World Book Day competition to write a book. Our School Councillors spent time reading and voting for their favourite books. The books were displayed in the library for all to read. Here are some of our entries:

We celebrated our love of reading by holding a whole school event. Each class spent time learning about a different author and then displayed it in the school hall. Parents were invited to visit and spend time with their child looking at and reading their work. We also held a book fayre which raised over £500 worth of free books for the school. Thank you so much.
