Nurture Group

Welcome to the Nurture Group! Here you will find some information about our Nurture Group and how it supports children in school.

What is the Nurture Group?

Children's confidence, self esteem and behaviour are paramount to their well-being and central to all their learning and development in school. The Nurture Group is designed to support these aspects of personal, social and emotional development.

Who will my child work with in the Nurture Group?

The Nurture team is overseen by Mrs Hallewell. In the classroom the children work with Mrs Morton, who are specifically trained in delivering this type of provision.

What do children do in the Nurture Group?

Children have the opportunity to work in a small secure group or 1:1 with our team of staff, which helps them to develop positive relationships with adults and peers alike. A range of activities help develop their personal and social skills, including;

  • Short, focused writing and number tasks directed by the class teacher.
  • Artwork
  • Sharing stories
  • Playing educational games
  • Craft activities
  • Baking
  • Role play
  • Circle time

The timetable for nurture is flexible, but children will generally visit the nurture group for a one hour session each day. This is carefully planned around the children's core learning. Each half term there will be a review to see if children need to access further support.

Our Nurture provision has produced some excellent results since it has been developed. Children are more confident and secure in their learning, and are able to manage their emotions and feelings knowing that they have this time during their day to work in a quiet, calm space.

As time has gone on we have also extended our nurture provision to include wider activities, such as Nurture Sports, Gardening Club and specific visits for nurture children. Our most recent initiative has been 'Riding for Smiles' where, thanks to a funding bid secured by The Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre in Creswell, children were able to access a block of six riding sessions during the summer term. We are hoping to access this fantastic opportunity again in the near future.
