Our Learning

Spring term - Heros and Villans

This term we have lots of exciting work planned. In our first half of spring term we will be looking into “who is afraid of the big bad wolf”. We will complete lots of learning tasks based around the traditional tales, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three little pigs.

We will use these stories to help us work our way closer to the early learning goals (ELGs)

In the second half term we will be taking a close look at people who help us. Where we will be looking at the roles of people in our communities who look after us and keep us safe. Usings texts such as A Super hero like you.

Literacy-

We are particularly working on;

Being able to spell words by identifying the sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter

Writing correctly formed letters

Using our phonic knowledge to decode and read simple sentences

Communication and Language

To be able to listen attentively and respond to what they hear with relevant questions, comments and actions when being read to and during whole class discussions and small group interactions using full sentences

 Maths-

Using the whiterose scheme of learning - Looking at zero, Alive in 5 and growing 7,8,9.

In our maths work we will be working hard at becoming maths masters this means we are not just learning how to count but we are also delving deeper and also looking at, the composition of the numbers we are learning, different ways of representing numbers, comparing the groups,  and 1 more and 1 less.

PSED-

There are going to be lots of play opportunities for children to play co-operatively taking turns with others. They take account of one another’s ideas about how to organise their activity. They show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults and other children. Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They work as part of a group or class, and understand and follow the rules. They adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of routine in their stride.

Expressive Arts and Design -

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

RE -

In the first half of the term we will be looking at Chinese new year, and in the second half we will look at the Easter story.

 Understanding the world -

Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur and talk about changes.
