Summer

Welcome to the summer term. .

This term our learning will be based around  “Fur feathers and Scales” and we have lots of exciting new experiences lined up for the children to explore in their final term in Reception.

Literacy

In our Literacy lessons we will look at the following texts-

Dear Zoo

Six dinner Sid

Rumble in the Jungle

And lots of high-quality non-fiction animal information books.

In Literacy we will be working towards the children being able to Demonstrate understanding of what has been read to them by retelling stories and narratives using their own words and recently introduced vocabulary as well as being able to use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems and during role play.

Alongside these fantastic stories we will continue with our Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics lessons to help us meet the following early learning goals.

Word Reading

• Say a sound for each letter in the alphabet and at least 10 digraphs.

• Read words consistent with their phonic knowledge by sound blending.

• Read aloud simple sentences and books that are consistent with their phonic knowledge, including some common exception words.

Writing

• Write recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed.

• Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters.

• Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others

Maths

In our maths lessons we will be looking at 3D shapes, number bonds to 10, numbers to 20 and beyond, the idea adding some and taking some away and sharing and grouping. This will help us to explore and represent patterns within numbers up to 10 and beyond, including evens and odds, double facts and how quantities can be distributed equally.

PSED

We will continue to explore lots of play opportunities, where the children are able to play co-operatively taking turns with others. They take account of one another’s ideas about how to organise their activity. They show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults and other children. Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They work as part of a group or class, and understand and follow the rules. They adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of routine in their stride.

Expressive Arts and Design -

The children will continue to explore our creative areas enabling all children to use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. The children will be able to represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

Physical Development.

As well as our fantastic outdoor area where the children can access bikes, climbing walls an obstacle course we will continue to have our PE lessons on a Friday afternoon. In our PE lessons where we will have the opportunity to practise playing special awareness games, control and co-ordination games as well as looking at how exercise makes us feel and what it does to our bodies.

 RE -

In RE this term we will be looking at the story of Noah`s Ark as well as continuing to look at festivals of the world what to other people celebrate? Do we celebrate things in the same way?

 Understanding the world -

This term we will welcome some chick eggs into the EYFS classrooms we will watch over them until they hatch exploring what happens throughout the process and how the chicks grow. Please keep an eye on Dojo for photos when they arrive. This experience combined with a trip to a farm towards the end of the term will enable us to explore the natural world around us making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants.
